What year was my G&L produced ?

G&L instruments produced since mid-2010 are shipped with a Custom Build Specifications sheet which includes the date the instrument was completed.

They were built between 1992 and 1995. The serial numbers start with CN2, CN3 and VN4. Silver logos were used for models built in the late 80s and for the Fender Squier Series strats, built in 1992 and 1993. These serial numbers start with CN2, CN3 and VN3. The first two numerical digits of the serial number (found on the back of the headstock) will tell you what year the instrument was made. For example, for serial number 0236758, the '02' indicates that the guitar was made in 2002; for serial number W10052743, the '10' indicates that the guitar was made in 2010.

There are also dates labeled on the neck heel and inside of the body. These will give you an approximate idea of when the instrument was completed, typically within one to two weeks of the latter of the two dates shown.

From the early 1980s to early 1997, serial numbers were typically stamped into a neck plate. The serial numbers for guitars began with 'G0' (G zero) and basses began with 'B0' (B zero). However, in rare instances there are guitars which began with 'B0' and basses which began with 'G0' on neck plates as the factory may have run out of the appropriate plates.

Some early guitars and basses had serial numbers stamped into the bridge plates. These are usually from 1980 to about 1982.

From early 1997 to about mid-1998, serial numbers for guitars and basses began with 'CL' and were applied as a decal to the back of the headstock.

From mid-1998 on, the serial numbers for guitars and basses began with 'CLF'.

The manual for earlier models covers how to adjust the micro-tilt neck feature no longer used on 4-bolt and 6-bolt models. Other aspects of the manual, such as pickup height adjustment, generally apply to newer models.
